Police investigate Anacostia River Trail murder

Prince George’s County Police are investigating the murder of 20-year-old Everett Robert Brown in Cottage City.  According to police, Brown lived on Cottage Terrace.  Brown was also the son of Cottage City’s Ward 4 Commissioner, Sheila Butler.

Authorities say Maryland-National Capital Park Police were called to the Anacostia River Trail on August 30 at approximately 6:45 am  for the report of an unconscious man. When police arrived, they say the victim was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives with the Prince George’s County Police Department say they are working to determine a motive and identify the suspect(s) in this case. Police canvassed the neighborhoods near the trail Sunday afternoon seeking additional information beginning in the 4100 block of Cottage Terrace.
