A severe thunderstorm watch for the entire metro area  was in effect until 11 p.m. Tuesday, and weather reporters predicted wind damage to rival the 2012 derecho.

Hyattsville came in for its share of the widespread thunderstorms shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As of 7:47 p.m., Pepco was reporting a total of 31,105 outages in the Washington D.C. area, including 3,380 in Prince George’s County and 27,457 in Montgomery County.

Winds of up to 70 miles an hour are expected, and people are urged to shelter immediately.

UPDATE: The Washington Post is tracking outages for all energy providers in the area; as of 8:10 p.m., there were a total of 104,517 outages reported. The storm appears to have moved through much of the area.
