Clyopatra Winery & Vineyard is holding its grand opening with a wine tasting Saturday, Oct. 14 from 7 p.m. to midnight at its new tasting room at 24 C Street.

The winery was launched in 2022 by Ifeoma Clyopatra Onyia, a Nigerian-American entrepreneur, who planted a vineyard on a hillside property off Brooklyn Bridge Road. She has claimed that her winery is the first in the country owned by a person from Africa.

The winery will serve its own pinot grigio, cabernet sauvignon, noiret, chardonnay, chardonel and rosé. Onyia has produced these wines from grapes from the Eastern Shore, since her Laurel vineyard has not had time to mature. The event’s grand opening will  include complimentary finger foods.

The winery will continue to operate its tasting room, located in the former Sip Coffee Shop space, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2 to 10 p.m., Thursdays to Saturdays from 1 p.m. to midnight, and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
