BY LAUREN KELLY — Just two months after its well-attended Black & Red Block Party, Vigilante Coffee on July 16 celebrated its second anniversary in Hyattsville with yet another bangin’ block party. The event featured local brews and food trucks, free coffee, a screen-printing demonstration — even a dunk tank that was appropriate for the 90-degree day.

“It’s super hot, but the crowd is great and everybody’s in good spirits,” said owner Chris Vigilante. “Everybody’s a trouper here and we figured they’d come out. They’ve come in thunderstorms, hail, lightning, snowstorms.”

Vigilante was first up for the dunk tank. Patrons could buy tickets to pitch balls and dunk their favorite Vigilante employees and other members of the community, all while raising money for the Anacostia Watershed Society.

Calvert Brewing Co. of Upper Marlboro, Md., joined local beermakers Handsome Beer Co. and Port City Brewing to showcase their tasty ales, while food trucks Angry Burgers and Ball or Nothing supplemented the lunch menu available inside the coffee shop and roastery. General Assembly was also on-site to discuss their suite of classes on business, technology and design, while a volunteer from Pyramid Atlantic Art Center screen-printed free posters featuring the “The Wonderful World of Vigilante,” designed by local artist and Vigilante regular Wences Almazan.
