A 30-year-old Hyattsville resident died in a motor scooter crash on Tuesday after losing control and colliding with a median on University Boulevard near the Route 1 interchange in College Park.
Police reported to the scene at approximately 2:25 p.m. Tuesday and took the rider, Roberth Pereira Leal, to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Leal’s death follows a second local scooter accident in April that killed 60-year-old Jerome Marshall of Washington, D.C. Marshall collided with a car on Rhode Island Avenue, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.
The Prince George’s County Police Department’s investigation into this scooter crash is ongoing.
The police department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Correction: A prior version of this article implied that Leal was riding an electric kick scooter. An eye witness contacted us and said he was riding a motor scooter that resembled a small motorcycle.
