UPDATE: Police ID body found near Editor’s Park Drive

BY KRISSI HUMBARD — At approximately 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department and Hyattsville City Police Department (CPD) responded to a citizen’s report of a body in a grassy area between the 3300 block of East West Highway and the 6100 block of Editor’s Park Drive in Hyattsville. When officers arrived, they found the victim, a Hispanic male, suffering from multiple stab wounds to his upper body. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Brandon Sorto of 29th Avenue in Hyattsville.

CPD said this is the first homicide in the City of Hyattsville since 2014.

The investigation is being handled by the Prince George’s County Police Department. Anyone with information is urged to call CPD at 301-985-5060 or the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 301-772-4925. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers at 1-866- 411-TIPS (8477). A cash reward is being offered for the tip that leads to the arrest and indictment of the suspect(s).
