As high school graduations approach, area students are looking for scholarships and financial aid. Organizations in our area offer scholarships for locals, and the deadlines to apply are coming up! Here’s our list of scholarships specifically for local high school seniors, with deadlines and links to find out more. This is our first year providing this resource; please email jalen@streetcarsuburbs.news with any we are missing.

Greek scholarships

Local chapters of sororities and fraternities are accepting applications for scholarships this spring.

Kappa Foundation

These merit-based scholarships from the Hyattsville/Landover alumni chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity benefit those graduating from Prince George’s County high schools. Recommendation letters needed. Deadline March 15.

KEL Foundation

The Kappa Epsilon Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity offers scholarships to high school seniors from Prince George’s County. Recommendation letters needed. Deadline March 15.

Phi Beta Sigma

The Prince George’s County Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma offers $1,000 merit-based scholarships to high school seniors attending Prince George’s County Public Schools. Deadline March 15.

Community College Scholarships

Prince George’s  Community College Board of Trustees Scholarship 

The Board of Trustees’ Legacy Scholarship recognizes graduates of Prince George’s County high schools who demonstrate high academic ability and strong leadership qualities. Scholarship recipients commit to attending Prince George’s Community College. Deadline June 1.

Maryland Promise Scholarship

The Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship offers eligible Maryland community college students financial assistance. As a “last-dollar” scholarship, it covers remaining tuition and mandatory fees after federal and state financial aid is applied. Deadline April 1.

PGCPS Scholarships – Merit-based, deadline March 23 

Prince George’s County Public Schools offers scholarships for graduating seniors; guidelines recommend getting materials to school counselors for review March 13. 

Superintendent Scholarship – $5,000 each to 4 PGCPS graduating seniors

Leadership Scholarship – $3,500 each to 12 PGCPS graduating seniors

Student Service-Learning Scholarship – $3,500 each to 9 PGCPS graduating seniors

Culinary Arts Scholarship – $3,500 each to 3 PGCPS graduating seniors

Technical Scholarship – $3,500 each to 3 PGCPS graduating seniors

Trade Scholarship – $3,500 each to 3 PGCPS graduating seniors

Scholarships to Morgan State for PGCPS graduates

The Prince George’s County chapter of the Morgan State Alumni Association is sponsoring scholarships up to $5,000 for PGCPS graduates headed to Morgan State in the fall of 2026. Apply by April 30. See their video on finding scholarships generally here.

Maryland state legislator and delegate scholarships

Each Maryland state senator and delegate has their own scholarship program for students in their districts. Students must have filed a FAFSA by March 1 to apply for these.

Scholarship applications for residents of District 21, which includes College Park and parts of Laurel, are open now until sometime in May

In District 22, which includes Hyattsville, Delegate Anne Healey’s scholarship program is open through mid-May; Delegate Ashanti Martinez announced the opening of his scholarship program in February, and is accepting applications. Delegate Nicole Williams and Senator Alonzo T. Washington do not currently have applications posted, though Williams previously announced she will be accepting applications through May 11.

Hyattsville-area scholarships 

University Park Women’s Club Northwestern High School Scholarship

This one-time $1,500 scholarship is available to a graduating senior of Northwestern High School (Hyattsville, MD) with demonstrated financial need, a minimum GPA (Grade Point Average) of 3.0 and evidence of leadership, service and scholarship. 

The University Park Women’s Club also offers merit-based scholarships to University Park residents and the children of members. Deadline April 13.

City of Hyattsville’s Educational Path Scholarship

This scholarship supports Hyattsville high school seniors and graduates pursuing post-secondary education and career paths with funding for tuition, books, or other school materials. Need-based. Scholarships are awarded in amounts of $1,000, $1,500, $2,500, and $3,500. Deadline March 27.
