Man beaten during armed robbery on Oglethorpe Street

Posted on: October 5, 2015

BY REBECCA BENNETT — Updated at 1:39 p.m.  According to the Hyattsville City Police Department (HCPD), officers responded to the 6000 block of 44th Avenue at 11:20 p.m. Sunday for a report of an armed robbery.

Police said the victim was walking in the 4400 block of Oglethorpe Street when he noticed a silver car driving around the area.  The man sat down on the curb.  Two people, both with handguns, jumped out of the car, yelled at the man to “give it up,” and began hitting him with their weapons, police said.

A witness saw what was happening, who then yelled and scared off the assailants, HCPD Spokesperson Lt. Chris Purvis said.  The two suspects jumped back into the car and fled the scene in a silver sedan with Maryland plates.  It does not appear anything was taken.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was treated for facial injuries.
