Guy Davis Concert: When Guy Davis plays the blues, he doesn’t want you to notice how much art is involved. “It takes work making a song that’s simple, and playful, and easy to do,” he says. “And I don’t want people to see that. I want to uplift and create something that causes delight. Sing/Play Blues Workshop: Guy Davis: Primarily for guitar players but harp players, songwriters and story tellers are all welcome. Guy teaches in layers. There are simple versions and more complex versions of the same song. It’s not so much about how many notes you can play. Plaster Photo Workshop: Learn how to create photo transfers onto plaster from local artist Alma Selimovic! Class will start with printing participants’ photos. While photos are printing, Alma will explain the importance of printer type, ink and sheets that are used for transfers. Every person will have their own station covered in plastic where they will mix plaster and do their work. During this class we will cut fiberglass, mix plaster and transfer photos. A Night With Jackie “Moms” Mabley: Step back in time with the wonderful mother-wit of Jackie “Moms” Mabley. Enjoy snacks and an evening with Charisma Wooten in the Helen Hayes nominated Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play. You will laugh and cry! Community Conversations: How can Hyattsville be a more welcoming community? The city is hosting a panel discussion with members of the Muslim, LGBTQ, and Latino communities. Bystander Intervention Training: Equip yourself to take action in your community! Build the skills you need to effectively intervene when you witness harassment and contribute to changing the culture that perpetuates and normalizes violence.The second half of this workshop will address privilege and the white savior complex in the context of bystander intervention.
