An Introduction to Taiko, the Art of Japanese Drumming: High energy, engaging teacher and performer Mark H. Rooney leads this interactive program that features both traditional and contemporary songs and rhythms. Learn more about the instruments, the use of one’s voice in taiko, as well as a bit of Japanese history and vocabulary. Third Saturday Readings: Readings hosted by Sid Gold featuring writers Melanie Hatter, Greg McBride, and David Salner. Open reading follows. Hatter is the author of the novel “The Color of My Soul” (WWPH, 2011), which was subsequently adopted by the Folger Shakespeare Library for use in a summer program in the DC Public Schools, and a collection of short stories, “Let No One Weep for Me: Stories of Love and Loss.” McBride is the author of the prize-winning “Porthole” (Briery Creek Press, 2012) and “Back of the Envelope” ( Southeast Missouri State University Press, 2009). Salner is a two-time recipient of an MSAC Individual Artist Award and has received grants from the Puffin Foundation and the Laughlin Fund. His third book is “Blue Morning Light” (Pond Road Press, 2016) and his work has appeared in numerous reviews.

Demo Day at Tanglewood Works: Are you ready to find your own inner artist or to try out a new medium? At Tanglewood Works we search high and low for interesting products you can use in your own creations and this Saturday, as part of the OST, we will be demonstrating one of our Favorites: Alcohol Inks to create Stained Glass and Decorative Tile. We love using AI’s to transform old windows and vases into works of art. In this demo we will show you how to use these special Inks and inspire you to try them yourself.
