Hyattsville City Council observes moment of silence for PGPD Officer Jacai Colson

Posted on: March 22, 2016

BY REBECCA BENNETT — At the March 21 Hyattsville City Council meeting, Mayor Candace Hollingsworth led the council, city staff and residents in a moment of silence for slain Prince George’s County Police (PGPD) Officer First Class Jacai Colson.

Colson, a four-year veteran assigned to the narcotics division, was shot and killed after a gunman opened fire at the District III police station in Landover on March 13.  Colson was off-duty, in street clothes, and he got out of his car and returned fire, according to media reports.  The PGPD police chief said he was shot by a fellow officer who mistook him for an assailant.

The gunman and his two brothers were arrested and face multiple charges in connection with the ambush.

Colson’s funeral is open to the public.  It will be held on Friday, March 25 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden.  He will be laid to rest at Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, Pa.
