The 2023-24 University of Maryland student liaison to the College Park City Council will be president of the school’s Student Government Association during his senior year, starting in the fall.

Dhruvak Mirani, who helped create a short-lived pilot project for the city to give subsidies to student renters, won a landslide victory in the April election. The school’s student newspaper, The Diamondback, reported that this year’s SGA elections drew 6,000 undergraduate voters, more than any year since 2020.

Mirani, a government and politics major, also serves as a student member of the University System of Maryland’s Board of Regents.
