Emily Strab has won a tight three-way race to fill the position of city councilmember for Ward 2. According to the unofficial results published by the city, Strab received 280 votes, just over 40% of the 698 votes cast, edging out Lisbeth M Melendez Rivera, who received 263, and Kelly Burello, who received 152. (There were also three write-in candidates.)

The Ward 2 seat was vacant after former Ward 2 councilmember Robert Croslin was elected mayor in a June special mayoral election following former mayor Kevin Ward’s death in January. This is the second special election the city has held this calendar year.

Strab, who served on the board of the Hyattsville Life & Times, will step down from that role in order to serve as a Ward 2 councilmember.

The unofficial results will be certified by the board of supervisors of elections on Oct. 6. Strab will take the oath of office in King Park (4205 Gallatin Street) on Thursday, Oct 20, at 6 p.m.
