By KRISSI HUMBARD — Craft beer lovers will soon have another nearby option to quench their thirst.

Denizens Brewing Co. announced that it will open its second location at Riverdale Park Station on May 25.

The 12,000-square-foot production house and taproom will increase the availability of Denizens beer throughout the DMV area, according to a press release. The second location will have 9,000 square feet of production space and will brew Denizens’ year-round offerings, including its four core beers: Southside Rye IPA, Born Bohemian Pilsner, Third Party Tripel, and Lowest Lord ESB. It will also house a quality control lab, according to an article in the Washington City Paper.

“This new location will allow us to maintain and even improve upon our standards of quality at a much larger scale, which means putting pints of Denizens beer into more hands,” stated Jeff Ramirez, founder and chief brewing officer.

The 150-seat taproom will be a full restaurant and cocktail bar and will feature 20 local drafts, wines, and spirits. As for the food, the menu will feature made-from-scratch globally-inspired dishes like elote, chicken satay and fish and chips. Wherever possible, Denizens’ beer is incorporated into the food and dishes are designed with specific beer pairings in mind.

Denizens is excited to be an active member of the connected and flourishing Riverdale Park neighborhood center, and hopes to serve as an inclusive community gathering space for the surrounding areas of University Park, College Park, and Hyattsville.

“The town of Riverdale Park is such a vibrant and welcoming community. We are grateful for the support we have received from local residents to elected officials, and are excited to be fully immersed in the neighborhood,” said Emily Bruno, founder and chief administrative officer of Denizens.

A core tenet of Denizens is to be a community-based company that welcomes all beer fans.

“We’ve always tried to be open and welcoming for people to be exactly who they are and meet them where they’re at,” Julie Verratti, founder and chief brand officer, told the Washington City Paper. “If you’re someone who is really into beer and likes talking about the details of the hops and the yeast, we want this to be a place you can come. But if you’ve never really gotten into craft beer or don’t drink beer that often, we’ll work with you to find a beer that you’ll enjoy.”

With four core brands, an expansive sour and barrel-aging program, and a commitment to true-to-style ales and lagers, Denizens has made over 100 unique beers since opening in Silver Spring, Md., in 2014. Founded and operated by Emily Bruno, Jeff Ramirez, and Julie Verratti, Denizens Brewing Co. is the only majority women and minority owned brewery in Maryland and a proud member of the local craft beer community.

Denizens is located at 4550 Van Buren St. in Riverdale Park. The taproom will be open Sunday-Thursday 11 a.m.-11 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays 11 a.m.-1 a.m. Lunch will be offered Monday-Friday with brunch on Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
