The editorial staff of the Hyattsville Life & Times (HL&T) selected staff writer Chris McManes as the volunteer staff member of the first quarter of 2020. McManes was selected for his timely, well-written sports articles, including his heartfelt “In Memoriam” piece about the late DeMatha basketball coach and teacher, Coach Morgan Wooten. McManes received top honors for the HL&T in 2011, 2017 and 2018 for articles submitted to the National Newspaper Association Better Newspaper Editorial Contest. This HL&T quarterly honor, established this year, recognizes the newspaper’s volunteers.
