By CAMILA VELLOSO — A 27-year-old woman was fatally wounded Tuesday night in Hyattsville, according to a police press release.
Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) identified the victim as Salina Rivera of 6210 Belcrest Road.
At approximately 7:55 p.m., officers from the Hyattsville City Police Department responded to multiple calls for reported sounds of gunshots, said Lt. Chris Purvis, a spokesman for the department.
Officers found Salina in the walkway suffering from gunshot trauma. Shortly after 8 p.m., Salina was pronounced dead on the scene, Purvis said.
PGPD’s Homicide Unit took over the investigation after Hyattsville Police had secured the area, Purvis said.
Detectives have not released suspect descriptions and no arrests have been made at the time. Police are still seeking a motive for Tuesday’s shooting.
Purvis said the incident “doesn’t appear random.”
