BY KRISSI HUMBARD —Updated Aug. 15, 11:15 a.m. Hyattsville City Police are investigating a shooting in West Hyattsville that sent three men to the hospital.

On Tuesday, Aug. 9, at about 12:25 p.m., Hyattsville City Police Department (HCPD) officers responded to a report of possible gunshots fired in the 5800 block of 35th Place.

According to HCPD, almost immediately after, an officer in a marked cruiser was approached by another vehicle carrying two Hispanic men seeking assistance in the parking lot behind the 3100 block of Hamilton Street. The two men were suffering upper-body trauma that police said appeared to be gunshot wounds. Both men have been transported to local hospitals with life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 1 p.m., detectives learned that a third person, a Hispanic male, also involved in the shooting had been taken to a local hospital emergency room in a private vehicle. This man had been shot in the area of the face and neck, and was transferred to a local shock trauma center. He is listed in critical but stable condition.

UPDATE: Police have recovered the silver Honda with Maryland tags 3 CK 9808 that was connected with this incident. According to Lt. Chris Purvis, officers are en route to pick up the vehicle. “They’ve made good progress on the case,” he said.

Police say this does not appear to be a random shooting incident.
