BY REBECCA BENNETT —The Hyattsville City Police Department (HCPD) arrested two men after stealing shoes a man had listed for sale online.  The incident happened at approximately 1 p.m. on Jan. 27 in the 5600 block of 29th Avenue.

According to police, the victim and one of the suspects met in Hyattsville after arranging a deal on a Facebook page for buying, selling, and trading sneakers.  The deal went bad after a verbal altercation, authorities said.  The suspect produced a gun and demanded a bag that contained eight pairs of shoes, worth approximately $2,300, and then fled the scene in a vehicle.

The victim flagged down a nearby HCPD officer, who was able to stop the vehicle on East West Highway at 23rd Avenue.  Police recovered the shoes, a BB gun and a semi-automatic pistol.

No one was injured during the incident.  Marcel Javonn Harris, 21, of Fort Washington and Rowanthany Danny Reid, 21, of Burtonsville were arrested.  Harris was charged with armed robbery, theft, and assault.  Reid was charged with armed robbery, theft, possession of a firearm.

Both suspects are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 24.
