BY CAROLINE SELLE — The United States Post Office at 4325 Gallatin Street will be holding a special passport event this Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. According to post office staff, the event is first come first serve and walk-in only.

Those wishing to obtain passports should bring a completed application (DS-11 form), a birth certificate or certificate of naturalization, and a valid ID. Applicants can bring a photo with them or have a photo taken on site. Parents applying for a passport for their child must have the child present.

The post office will be accepting cash, checks, and debit cards. No credit cards will be accepted.

Though the Gallatin Street post office contains a passport office, it has been temporarily closed due to a lack of staff. A staff member said employees will be working overtime for the event this Saturday and that they hope to reopen the Hyattsville location’s passport office in June.
