BY REBECCA BENNETT — A block party was held on Aug. 2 in the 3100 block of Lancer Drive.  The event included a pig roast and asked attendees to help share the cost.

“I definitely appreciate all of the thought and effort that goes into planning an event like that, and am grateful to have neighbors who continue to take those tasks on in the name of bringing West Hyattsville together,” resident Meg Libby-Mueller said.

Alexi Boado said to the local listerv:

Special thanks to Ed Haba who paid $225 for the pig out of his own pocket and got only $154 back from donations.

Thanks to Jay “Puddins” Lanning for driving for hours to pick up the pig, and ice, and for buying a huge bin in which to marinate the pig, and for buying all the ingredients and preparing and cooking the pig. I’m sure he is in $100 plus of his own money.

Thanks to Rufino for the charcoal and for waking up at 5:30am to BBQ that swine along with Jay, for 6 hours.

Thanks to the neighbors who bought and grilled with us and made us desserts.

Thanks to Stuart Eisenberg of Hyattsville Community Development Corporation (HCDC) for the moonbounce.

Thanks to Chief Holland for coming out and for sending his staff out to talk with us.
