Pedestrian dies after being hit by car

An 86-year-old woman died Jan. 30 after being struck by a vehicle in the Food Lion parking lot on Sandy Spring Road, according to Laurel police.

A police press release said Patricia Sheppard of Laurel was  struck by a vehicle at 3:17 p.m. as the driver was attempting to pull into a parking space. The driver remained on the scene and spoke with officers, the release said.

“It was a terrible accident,” said Laura Guenin, public information officer for the Laurel Police Department.

The release said an investigation of the fatality was ongoing, and it encouraged anyone with information to contact the department at 301.498.0092 or LPDtips@laurel.md.us.
