BY REBECCA BENNETT — The annual Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department (HVFD) community event returns to the firehouse this year at 6200 Belcrest Road near Queens Chapel Road. The HVFD Fire Safety Day and Open House will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Kids can try out the fire safety adventure course, try on firefighter gear, meet the firehouse mascot and get their faces painted, according to organizers. The fire trucks will be on display with the opportunity to take photos with them. HVFD said there will be free blood pressure checks and fire safety demonstrations.
Attendees are encouraged to park at the Prince George’s Plaza Metro Station garage, which is a short distance from the firehouse.
