As families prepare for the back-to-school rush, one local church is hoping to send kids off with their blessing.  The First United Methodist Church of Hyattsville is collecting schools supplies in hopes of giving 100 backpacks to children in the local community.

According to Sharon Milton, the program is currently in the most need of backpacks and notebooks.  Backpacks will come packed with school essentials, such as pens, folders, and glue sticks.  The deadline for donations is August 22.

The backpacks will be disturbed on Saturday, August 23rd from 10:30am – 1:30pm.

If you are interested in donating supplies to the “100 Backpacks, 100 Blessings” effort, donations are being accepted at the church office at 6201 Belcrest Road in Hyattsville.

For more information, contact Sharon Milton at 301-404-6628
