Kevin Ward, mayor of Hyattsville, died suddenly on Tuesday, January 25.

“Mayor Ward was a valued and trusted leader and a fierce advocate for all the people of Hyattsville,” said a press release from his office. “We are heartbroken at this loss and extend our deepest sympathy to his family.”

Ward moved to Hyattsville in 2014 and was elected twice to the Hyattsville City Council, representing Ward One, according to his website. He then began his tenure serving as an interim mayor in 2020 until he was elected to the office in 2021.

Mayor Ward described himself as a “husband, father, grandfather, and proud resident of Hyattsville.” He is survived by his loving family.

City Council President Robert Croslin (Ward 2) will serve as interim mayor.
