BY REBECCA BENNETT — Several local leaders were invited to the White House on July 23, according to the City of Hyattsville, to discuss best practices on the implementation of President Barack Obama’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing.

Mayor Candace Hollingsworth and Hyattsville City Police Chief Douglas Holland were joined at the forum by Hyattsville resident Alexi Boado and First United Methodist Church of Hyattsville Pastor Rev. Dr. Yvonne Wallace Penn.

“This is a great opportunity for Hyattsville to share some of the great work of our police department while also learning from national policing experts,” Hollingsworth said. “I look forward to the opportunity this creates for our residents and enhanced safety in our community.”

The forum, which was hosted by the Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, brought together law enforcement executives, mayors, county executives, faith leaders, local partners and Obama Administration officials to participate in interactive plenary and break-out sessions, the city said.
