BY REBECCA BENNETT — The Hyattsville City Council approved a resolution on March 21 that states the city welcomes all people, regardless of national origin or refugee status.

“WHEREAS, all refugees should be treated with dignity, care, and compassion that every person deserves and the federal government’s response to the potential deportation of children and families should be executed in the most humane and respectful manner possible … “ the resolution states.

In Nov. 2015, CNN reported that governors of 31 states said Syrian refugees were not welcome.

A copy of the resolution will be sent to Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, who made a statement in November asking the federal government not to send more Syrian refugees to Maryland until it could be guaranteed that they are not a safety threat.
