HCPD holds mock DUI event at Northwestern High

Posted on: May 14, 2018

In an effort to educate youth about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and distracted driving, the City of Hyattsville Police Department, the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department and Northwestern High School students will perform a mock crash demonstration this morning. During this demonstration, the participants will be involved in a simulated auto accident with injuries.

Students will see how the police and fire department respond to this type of accident, how the fire department extracts injured passengers and how police conduct a field sobriety test of an impaired driver.

HCPD says it hopes this message will serve as a reminder of how final certain decisions can be. Students will see the reality of what getting behind the wheel while impaired looks like and how it can change your life forever.

This event will be held on Monday, May 14 at 10 a.m. at Northwestern High School, at 7000 Adelphi Road in Hyattsville.
