ALSO: City considers solar-powered waste bin pilot program

BY REBECCA BENNETT — The initial cost estimate of the Bigbelly solar-powered trash bins was more than three times the budgeted amount of $30,000, and prohibits the city from doing a full-scale implementation, Hyattsville City Administrator Tracey Nicholson said at the Nov. 2 Hyattsville City Council meeting.

City staff plans to recommend to council a phased approach with a small number of receptacles, Nicholson said.

Nicholson said staff found that there were several areas of the city that were underrepresented with trash bins, so they city ordered more of the current waste containers for the most problematic areas.
