On Friday, Feb. 20, Uber announced that rides on UberX to and from Prince George’s or Montgomery Counties were free up to $20 this weekend. UberX is the fleet’s smaller cars. I think all of you who don’t know the Gateway Arts District, the City of Hyattsville, the City of Mount Rainier, the Town of Brentwood, the Town of Riverdale Park, the Town of University Park, and surrounding municipalities and nooks and crannies should use this as an opportunity to come visit us.

The Washingtonian already told you to buy Hyattsville and Mount Rainier in 2015. The Washington Post featured Hyattsville in its “Going Out Guide.”  NBC 4 did an entire series on just what this area has to offer. You might not know that we have a killer moms group, summer jams that rock out the neighborhood, movie nights at the park, indoor farmers markets during the winter and jazz performances on the lawn of the Riversdale Mansion. We ooze art, but there is room for more art. It’s all hands-down: you cannot miss it.

It was a happy accident that we came to live in the Gateway Arts District and the City of Hyattsville. There are so many wonderful businesses and events happening locally. I lived in Northern Virginia from Sterling to Rosslyn, Alexandria to Mount Vernon and so many places in between.  Working local news, I would have never sought out the opportunity to live in Prince George’s County 10 years ago.

But I can tell you right now that you will have to tear me out of this little corner of the world. I will only go kicking and screaming from Prince George’s County.

And then, Vigilante Coffee tweeted this:

Let me tell you that they are right.  We have so many amazing businesses within walking distance. The Prince George’s Plaza area has been highlighted as a new downtown in the 2035 plan for the area. There is a lot of attention on our little corner of the world. We’re getting a brand new Whole Foods development and a Safeway.

The Washington, D.C. region loves its secret places and insider knowledge. So, use your free UberX rides to come this way.
