Two days before the new Safeway at Gateway at UTC is schedule to open, the public art installation Ribbon of Life was installed. Months ago, artist Alan Binstock and the Hyattsville Community Development Corporation released images of the proposed art work.

To see this public art sculpture be installed so magnificently and so close to the way it was rendered was a victory for the people and the promise of this new development. Binstock made good on his proposal, the Ribbon of Life is real and will welcome visitors to the new Safeway development, which will open at 6 a.m. on April 6.

Art doesn’t have to come this close to its preview rendering, but I was blown away at the beauty of it.  The piece that was proposed jumped off the page and we (YOU) can now touch it.  This piece of art becomes a symbol of the many new developments in the City of Hyattsville.  That residents can now reach out a hand and touch it, as if what we talk about will come to life; this has significant meaning.  This when it seems as if we are perpetually waiting for many projects to happen.
