Friends of the Hyattsville Library considers disbanding

Posted on: July 1, 2014

According to their yahoo group, the Friends of the Hyattsville Library meetings have be lacking in attendance, so the treasurer offered up the option of disbanding the group.

The Friends of the Hyattsville Library funds some of the local branch’s programs, operates the book store, and runs a used book sale.  The group’s Facebook page detailed other accomplishments from 2012-3:

·Fully funded numerous Summer Reading Programs, reaching more than 500 local children
·Purchased materials for staff-hosted library programs
·Provided honorarium and refreshments for the Hyattsville Library Independent Film Series, which has seen more than 500 attendees
·Organized and held Spring festival, a celebration of the library including a used book sale, refreshments, open mike, and entertainers
·Paid for contracted performers for numerous library programs
·Provided DVD cabinet to eliminate waiting time for TV programs

Their Facebook page shows a Franklin’s fundraiser the Friends of the Hyattsville Library organized earlier this year to raise money for these programs and additions.

If you would like to attend the next meeting of the Friends of the Hyattsville Library to help decide its future, it will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, July 2.
