The Sonny Frazier Toy Drive started more than 13 years ago with the goal to give underprivileged kids presents for Christmas. The Toy Drive has grown each year since it’s start. Last year, drive leader Ruth Ann Frazier estimated they raised $4,500 and distributed gifts to 260 children. The toy drive hosts a holiday party each year where every kid leaves with five gifts that their parents picked out for them from a collection of unwrapped presents purchased by the drive volunteers.
Organizers say that donations for the toy drive are still being accepted. Residents can place a new, unwrapped toy in collection boxes at Hyattsville Elementary School, the Hyattsville Municipal Building or Lawson’s Pharmacy. Monetary contributions can be sent to Mrs. Ruth Ann Frazier at 5013 37th Ave., Hyattsville, Md. 20782. Please make checks payable to The Sonny Frazier Toy Drive.
