The city of Laurel dedicated an athletic field to the memory of Marcus Colbert, the only city employee ever killed while on the job.

Colbert was staffing a sanitation truck for the Laurel Department of Public Works in January 2017 when he was struck by a car on Sandy Spring Road.

City officials gathered with Colbert’s parents at 6901 Overlook Way, near the intersection of Van Dusen and Contee roads, on Oct. 6 to rename the spot the Marcus Colbert Community Field.
