BY REBECCA BENNETT — Updated at 5:29 p.m.  According to the Hyattsville City Police Department (HCPD), three attempted sexual assaults have occurred over the past three week along the Anacostia Tributary Trail System.  In each incident, the suspect was hiding in the wood line and attempted to drag the victim into the woods.

One of the incidents occurred along the hiker-biker trail near Magruder Park at 7:15 a.m, according to police. Two other incidents occurred along the trail near the West Hyattsville Metro Station at approximately midnight, they said.

HCPD said they cannot confirm the three incidents are related.  However, they said the general description of the suspect is similar.

He is described as a Hispanic male, short black hair, approximately 5’7″-5’9″, 19- to 30-years-old.

Police advises anyone using the trail to take extra precautions.  “If possible, do not walk or jog alone. Tell your friends or family the route you will be taking when using the trail system. Carry a whistle and carry a cell phone. Do not wear a headset,” police said.
